Maybe because I live in Florida where the seasonal changes are subtler that I no longer feel Labor Day means the end of summer.
Luckily the folks at Children’s Museum of Wilmington (NC) also share the feeling.
Come September 22, 2007 the 9th Annual Castles, Scoops & the Loop event, befitting the museum, will take place on beautiful Wrightsville Beach,
I love this museum! It continually feeds the 8 year old in my soul.
A new element has been added this year – it is the family fun walk/run. Starting at 7:30 there is plenty of time to complete the loop and then grab a bucket and head for some grand sand granular building.
Participants have 2.5 hours to create masterpieces. Judges will be looking at the following.
A tastier alternative begins at 12:00 noon with the building of ice cream sundaes- in the shade of course. So even if your sand castle dissolved in a pile of slurry, a marischino cherry sitting proudly atop a whipped cream laden extravanaganza will compensate for it.
Drive south to Carolina Beach and its time for the annual visit of the loggerhead sea turtles. From mid May to September the species, protected by the Endangered Species Act, are protected by locals and visitors as they make their precarious march to the sea.
